THERE were dramatic finishes to Monday night’s call of votes for the Alan McDonald Medal and George Symons Medal as fairest and best in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo FNL reserves and under-18 footy.

When the final card for the under-18s award was read on Fresh fm 101.5 it left Sandhurst’s Jack Moresi and Strathfieldsaye’s Sam O’Bree locked on 17 votes.

Moresi earnt votes in seven matches where the breakdown was the maximum three votes in four matches; two votes in two games; and a vote in one.

O’Bree was adjudged best on ground in five matches and earnt a vote in two games.

A big season for O’Bree has included Storm reaching the grand final where it will meet Moresi and his Dragons’ team-mates or South Bendigo.

Next best in the George Symons Medal tally were Castlemaine’s Brian Shafik-Eid and Ben Jardine on 16 and 14 votes.

Sandhurst’s Patrick McNamara and Carter Reid were locked on 11 votes with Logan Wilson from Golden Square.

In the race for the Alan McDonald Medal it was Eaglehawk’s Dylan Hanley who led the way on 19 votes.

After earning the maximum three votes in four matches, Hanley gained two votes in two matches, and a single vote in three contests.

He will be back on the QEO this Saturday as Eaglehawk tackles South Bendigo in the preliminary final.

Joint runners-up for the Alan McDonald Medal were Sandhurst’s Gus Hay, Eaglehawk’s Jaxon Vroom and Kangaroo Flat’s Jarryd Wiegard on 14 votes.

Next best were Golden Square team-mates Drew Barrett and Dean Norris with 13 votes.

The pre Michelsen night included the naming of several awards.

Sandhurst defender Jaxon Howard earnt the Bart ‘n’ Print Rising Star for senior footy.

The Derrick Filo Medal for best in Bendigo’s senior inter-league footy win against Ovens and Murray was awarded to Gisborne’s Dylan Johnstone.

The Robert O’Connell Medal for Bendigo’s best in the under-18s clash with O and M went to Golden Square’s Josh Kelly.

The goalkicking awards were again sponsored by Coffee Storm.

Gisborne gun Pat McKenna kicked 78 goals in the home-and-away series to earn the Ron Best Medal.

Seth Cooke from Golden Square kicked 33 goals to claim the reserves trophy.

Sandhurst’s Miller Armstrong slotted 50 goals to be number one in the under-18s competition.

Counting of votes for the Michelsen Medal for senior footy, the Betty Thompson Medal for A-grade netball and awards presentations will be held this Sunday at Bendigo Club in Strathdale.

It’s assembly from 5.30pm for a 6pm start.
