BFNL announce Head Coaches to lead 2020 representative netball teams
The Bendigo Football Netball League can today confirm the appointments of the Head Netball coaches set to lead our Open and 17 & Under teams against Ballarat on May 2nd, along with the Netball Victoria Association Championships to be held throughout May and June – a tournament the League hold in high regard and have achieved strong results in previously at state level.
As with recent football appointments, consistency and stability remains a key theme for the 2020 campaign, headlined with the re-appointment of Jayden Cowling as the 2020 BFNL Open Netball coach. Jayden successfully led the Open team to a commanding 15-goal victory against AFL Outer East during the 2019 AFL Vic Community Championships.
Cowling, the current coach of BFNL A Grade side Kangaroo Flat who finished the 2019 season as Runners-Up, holds an extensive playing and coaching background and has been associated with the BFNL representative program for several seasons; holding the role as Assistant Coach of the Open BFNL sides in 2017/2018 before taking the head role in 2019. Jayden will provide elite game play systems and structure, along with consistency whilst building on the recent momentum of our netball program.
A multiple Australian and Victorian men’s netball representative as a player himself, Jayden’s extensive and equally impressive playing experience at state and national level will again be vital to the team gaining an edge over their opponents.
The 17 & Under BFNL netball representative team will have a fresh face in charge for 2020, as Nicole Donnellon will take over the reins from Melinda Keighran. Nicole is no stranger to BFNL representative netball, holding the position as Assistant Coach for the 2019 BFNL 17 & Under team, who ultimately fell short at the semi-final stage of the Netball Victoria Association Championships finals in Frankston. An otherwise impressive campaign was highlighted by a 62-35 final score line in their Inter League match against AFL Outer East.
A current AFL Central Victoria Academy coach, Nicole has enjoyed several coaching roles including mentoring AFL Central Victoria Academy teams in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020; 17 & Under Assistant Coach for North Central at the State Titles in 2019 along with her Assistant duties for the BFNL 17 & Under team last year. Nicole has also coached representative teams in the Loddon Valley FNL over several years.
A highly qualified coach at both junior and senior level for many years, previous roles including as State Titles selector further adds to Nicole’s value to the BFNL 17 & Under team.
BFNL Manager Cameron Tomlins said “We are thrilled to have two fantastic individuals in Jayden and Nicole mentoring our representative netball sides for 2020. Much like the football coaching announcements, it is fantastic to have coaches that have been part of the BFNL representative program recommitting to build on the platforms for success set in recent years.”
“Both Jayden and Nicole are highly respected and well credentialled coaches who both possess the skillset necessary to lead our netball teams to 2020 success. The BFNL hold representative netball in high regard and are excited about the expertise and enthusiasm both coaches bring to the table.”
“We are confident that the BFNL will once again have a successful netball representative season, built on the development, structure and guidance offered from both Jayden and Nicole”.
