Maryborough FNC appoints Senior Football Coach

The Maryborough Football Netball Club (MFNC) is excited to announce the appointment of Justin Abrams as its Senior Football coach for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Abrams comes to the Club with a wealth of football experience as a player, administrator and coach. MFNC won six games in the 2019 season finishing just outside the five, its best result since the 2011 season. The Club is hoping Abrams’ leadership and experience will continue the development of the playing list and positive club culture, ultimately leading to a stronger and more successful club in 2020.

Abrams, who will join the Club as a non-playing coach, played major league football with both North Ballarat and East Ballarat in the Ballarat Football League. His coaching journey began when he took up the role of playing coach of Newlyn in the Central Highlands Football Netball League.

Abrams continued his coaching development taking an assistant coach role to Sean Simpson at the St Albans Football Club in the Geelong Football League. During this period he also coached the St Albans U18 team. Abrams coaching returned to Ballarat where he was an assistant at the North Ballarat Roosters in the VFL to Gerald Fitzgerald and coached the North Ballarat Rooster Development Squad.

Abrams moved into football administration in 2013 and 2014 when he worked for the AFL as the Regional Operations Manager for the Bendigo Football Netball League.

Abrams' love of football coaching saw him appointed to the role of Senior Coach of Dunnstown in the Central Highlands Football League in 2014. Abrams has been the Senior coach at Dunnstown for the past 5 seasons where he significantly improved the performance of the club leading it to play finals in 2018.

“I am excited by the opportunity to be taking the Senior Coaching role at Maryborough, a club that has been steadily improving and where I can continue the development of its young playing list,” Abrams said.

Justin lives in Ballarat where is married to Ange and has three children Jake, Lachie and Macy.

MFNC thanks outgoing coach Ben Lavars who has had a successful two years at the club, significantly improving the club’s culture and onfield performance.

Ben is returning to Geelong and the Club wish he, Taylar and Lucky all the best and are greatly appreciative of their time at the club.
